Herodeion
Built in 161 AD, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus is home to summer concerts and performances of ancient drama. Also referred to as the Herodeion, this magnificent structure serves as a stage for lyric theatre and dance in conjunction with the Athens Festival that runs from June through September. Originally a steep-sloped amphitheater rising three-stories high, the Herodeion was constructed by Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, Aspasia Annia Regilla. In its day, the stone theatre had a capacity of 5,000. The structure was restored in the 1950's with a main focus on the stage and audience stands. The Herodeion is situated on Dionysiou Areopagitou Street near the theatre of Dionysus.
