Monastiraki flea market stall
Modern meets ancient at the Monastiraki Flea Market where people gather on Sunday to shop in the Athens town. Shoppers travel from all over to buy and sell goods at the market that features everything from cell phones to family heirlooms. The market showcases an assortment of shops that expands on Sunday to include market stalls filled with mysterious treasures. Many of the sellers at the Monastiraki Flea Market are refugees from Eastern Europe, Bulgaria, Turkey and the former Soviet Union. Spanning just a square mile, the market becomes quite crowded as the day progresses. For this reason, shoppers are encouraged to head to the market in the morning.
